Video transcript:
Probi®Osteo consists of three strains: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HEAL9 (HEAL9™), Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HEAL19 and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei 8700:2. These three strains have been shown to be even more beneficial for bone health when acting together compared to alone. But let us start by showing how bone tissue is regulated.
There is a constant breakdown and build-up of bone tissue taking place in the body. Osteoclasts are specific types of bone cells that are responsible for digesting bone during the resorption phase. Osteoblasts on the other hand are bone cells responsible for building bone during the formation phase. Osteoblasts also indirectly control resorption, by secreting molecules that up-regulate or down-regulate the activity of osteoclasts.
With increased age, osteoclasts will naturally outnumber osteoblasts, and the balance between formation and resorption is strongly affected. This results in more fragile bones as we get older, and at the same time, inflammatory levels increase with age. This is partly due to a condition called leaky gut, where the integrity of the intestinal wall is affected by age. With a disrupted intestinal wall, small substances may leak into the body, increasing inflammatory signals, which in turn are responsible for activating osteoclasts and consequently leads to increased bone resorption.
Probi®Osteo has been shown to strengthen the intestinal wall and decrease inflammatory signals. The result is decreased resorption of bone, due to reduced inflammation and less active osteoclasts. Probi®Osteo supports bone health, by positively affecting the natural balance between bone formation and bone resorption.
