Probi FerroSorb® is a clinically proven probiotic iron-absorption concept, supporting long-term iron status. It is based on Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v (LP299V®), combined with a carefully balanced dose of iron.

Video transcript:
Probi Ferrosorb® is based on the probiotic strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299V, in short LP299V®, and a carefully balanced amount of iron. The LP299V® strain has great survivability and can bind to epithelial cells throughout the gastrointestinal tract. The strain is even active in the upper small intestine and duodenum, despite the high oxygen content in this part of the intestine and binds to the enterocytes, which are the cells making up the intestinal wall. The ability to be active and bind to the enterocytes in this part of the intestine is of the greatest importance since iron can only be absorbed in the small intestine.
Now let me tell you about iron. Iron comes in two different chemical forms, Fe-3 plus and Fe-2 plus. The only form that can be absorbed by the body is the Fe-2 plus. The probiotic strain LP299V® makes iron more bioavailable in two different ways:
Firstly, the LP299V® strain produces lactic acid which lowers the pH in the intestine. The lower pH enables iron to stay in its more bioavailable Fe-2 plus form, allowing more iron to be absorbed into the body from food and supplements.
Secondly, LP299V® increases the expression of the enzyme Duodenal Cytochrome B. This enzyme is responsible for transforming the less bioavailable Fe-3 plus form into Fe-2 plus. This results in more Fe-2 plus iron available for absorption by the body.
In summary, Probi FerroSorb® increases the bioavailability of iron from food and supplements in two ways, so that more iron can be absorbed into the body. Probi FerroSorb® – increased iron absorption and improved iron status over time.
