Probi Defendum® mode of action

How does Probi Defendum® work?

Probi Defendum® is a probiotic immune concept based on a combination of the Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HEAL9 (HEAL9™) and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei 8700:2 strains. See how it works to promote a healthy immune system.

Video transcript:

Probi Defendum® consists of two different strains, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum HEAL9 (HEAL9™) and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei 8700:2, chosen due to their immune-strengthening properties.

The intake of Probi Defendum® has been shown to promote a healthy immune system. But let us start by explaining the natural function of the immune system.

A common virus infection occurs when a virus enters the epithelial cells in the upper respiratory tract, starts to replicate, and then viruses spread to neighboring cells.

This triggers our immune system to react, and an inflammatory cascade is set off to fight the intruding pathogen.

The inflammation is what we can feel as cough, fever, sore throat, and sneezing to mention some common measures.

More than 70% of the immune cells are located in the intestinal tract, which is why the gut microbiota is of utmost importance for promoting a strong immune system.

There are two known ways probiotic bacteria can work to strengthen the immune system, either to activate or down-regulate immune functions. Probi Defendum® has been shown to act on both pathways.

The two probiotic strains in Probi Defendum® have been shown to survive the passage through the digestive system and bind directly to the cells lining the intestinal wall. This enables direct communication between the bacteria and the host.

Interaction between the bacteria and the intestinal cells leads to increased activity of different components of the immune system, here called immune markers.

These markers act as a first line of defense, boosting the immune system to be alert and ready to fight off any intruding pathogens as fast as possible. This can be measured as decreased incidence and recurrence of virus infections such as the common cold.

The second pathway for probiotic bacteria to strengthen the immune system is to down-regulate the immune functions.

Probi Defendum® has been shown to reduce the magnitude of the inflammatory response.

This is measured as decreased severity of the common cold measures as well as a “faster recovery” whenever infected.

Probi Defendum® – promotes a healthy immune system by providing natural immune support.
